“Hairspray” Week on “The Today Show,” July 16-20

NBC’s “The Today Show” will be celebrating “Hairspray” week, in recognition of the upcoming musical film. Each day various cast member(s) will be interviewed and share about the musical.

As if that weren’t enough, at the end of the week the cast will perform together outside Rockefeller Plaza (between 48th and 49th Streets and Fifth and Sixth Avenues). The public is invited to see the performance.

Here’s the line-up!:

July 16: Queen Latifah (Motormouth Maybelle)

July 17: Michelle Pfeiffer (Velma Von Tussle)

July 18: Nikki Blonsky (Tracy Turnblad), Zac Efron (Link Larkin), Amanda Bynes (Penny Pingleton), and Elijah Kelly (Seaweed)

July 19: Christopher Walken (Wilbur Turnblad)

July 20: A performance from the cast of “Hairspray”

The “Today” show airs on NBC, and all the “Hairspray” segments are scheduled to air during the 8:00AM-9:00 AM hour of the program. Check your local listings to find out when it airs in your time zone. For more information visit TodayShow.com.

The cast includes Queen Latifah as Motormouth Maybelle, John Travolta as Edna Turnblad, Christopher Walken as Wilbur Turnblad, Amanda Bynes as Penny Pingleton, Zac Efron as Link Larkin, Brittany Snow as Amber von Tussel, Michelle Pfeiffer as Velma von Tussel, James Marsden as Corny Collins, Elijah Kelly as Seaweed, Allison Janney as Prudy Pingleton, and Nikki Blonsky as Tracy Turnblad.

The Broadway musical and forthcoming musical version of the film are both based on the 1988 John Waters movie. The musical film hits theatres nationwide on July 20.
