Following a fantastic run Off-Broadway at the New World Stages Theatre, Rock of Ages is moving to Broadway, beginning previews tonight, March 17, at Broadway’s Brooks Atkinson Theatre. It will officially open on April 7.
The large cast includes Constantine Maroulis (“American Idol” finalist, The Wedding Singer) as Drew (reprising his Off-Broadway role), Amy Spanger (Tick, Tick, Boom; The Wedding Singer; Kiss Me, Kate) as Sherrie, and James Carpinello (Saturday Night Fever, VH1′s “So NoTORIous”) as Stacee Jaxx, along with such stars as Lauren Molina (Sweeney Todd), Katherine Tokarz (White Christmas, A Chorus Line), and Andre Ward (Xanadu, The Producers). The show also features an onstage band, ARSENAL.
Press notes describe the musical:
“In 1987 on the Sunset Strip, a small town girl met a big city rocker and in L.A.’s most famous rock club, they fell in love to the greatest songs of the ’80s. . . . [The musical is] an arena-rock love story told through the mind-blowing, face-melting hits of Journey, Bon Jovi, Styx, Reo Speedwagon, Pat Benatar, Foreigner, Twisted Sister, Poison, Asia, Whitesnake and many more.”
Can’t wait til Rock of Ages officially premieres? A large block of orchestra and front mezzanine tickets are being made available for all preview performances (March 17-April 6).
