Disney’s Broadway musical The Little Mermaid played its last performance at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre on August 30.
Since it began previews November 3, 2007, and opened on January 10, 2008 at the Lunt-Fontanne, it played 50 previews and 685 regular performances.
You can still hear the cast as their voices were preserved on The Little Mermaid original Broadway cast recording.
Thomas Schumacher, producer and president of Disney Theatrical Productions, said this about the show’s close:

While many shows on Broadway are suffering due to the economy, there’s still some room for celebration: Disney’s The Little Mermaid is celebrating its first anniversary on Broadway today, January 10, 2009. It is playing at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre, and as of now there is no talk of a closing date.
The popular under-the-sea show is based on the Disney animated film of the same name, which in turn was (VERY) loosely based on the Hans Christian Andersen fairytale. (Andersen wrote a not-so-happy ending.)

The Little Mermaid, the latest Disney Theatrical Productions musical to head for Broadway, is well on its way. The pre-Broadway engagement of the musical officially opens to the public tonight, August 23, at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House in Denver, Colorado. The Little Mermaid has been in previews since July 26.

Beauty and the Beast will be closing on Sunday, July 29. Today we’re looking back at a performance from the 1994 Tony Awards

Tarzan will beat his chest and yell and swing for the last time this Sunday evening.
Disney’s Tarzan will be swinging out of the Richard Rodgers Theatre on Sunday, July 8, after 486 shows, not including 35 previews. It opened on May 10, 2006.

Disney’s Beauty and the Beast celebrates its 13th year on Broadway today, April 18th! It is now the sixth longest-running show in Broadway history.Incidentally, it will also be coming to an end on Broadway in July, playing its last performance at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre on July 29th. It will be making room for a new Disney princess: The Little Mermaid.
