NBC’s Emmy-winning series “30 Rock” will gain some clout tonight as it receives some Tony Award-winning guest stars: Patti LuPone (most recently seen in the revival Broadway of Gypsy) and John Lithgow (most recently seen in the Broadway play All My Sons) are making a special appearance.
NBC describes the show as “a workplace comedy where the workplace exists behind-the-scenes of a live variety show.”
The episode is to be entitled “Goodbye, My Friend,” and airs on NBC at 9:3o PM ET; check your local listings for any discrepancies.

NBC’s “The Today Show” will be celebrating “Hairspray” week, in recognition of the upcoming musical film. Each day various cast member(s) will be interviewed and share about the musical.
As if that weren’t enough, at the end of the week the cast will perform together outside Rockefeller Plaza (between 48th and 49th Streets and Fifth and Sixth Avenues). The public is invited to see the performance.

Tonight, July 10, is the premiere of the “sing-along variety game show,” NBC’s “The Singing Bee.” Musically-inclined Joey Fatone hosts.
According to the official NBC announcement, “Each episode will begin with an audience-wide sing-along where eight lucky contestants will be chosen to compete in a series of fun filled singing games. In this exciting singing showdown, there’s no middle ground for partially correct answers — contestants must be perfect or they’re out of the game.”
