If you’re a fan of Tony and Grammy Award-winning songwriter Duncan Sheik (Spring Awakening), you won’t want to miss this! Sheik has put up a bunch of his “Whisper House” memorabilia for auction on eBay to benefit Amnesty International, the non-profit human rights organization. Spring Awakening, the Tony Award-winning coming-of-age story of teen angst, opened to the public today in London, following previews from January 23.
The musical opened at the Lyric Hammersmith, and is scheduled to continue through March 14 — a two-week extension from the original closing date of Feb. 28. Rumors of a move to the West End are rampant, as well.

Tony Award winner for Best Musical, Spring Awakening is set to begin a U.S. national tour in the Fall of 2008, kicking off in San Francisco. Productions in London and Australia, as well as worldwide, are soon to follow.
According to the show’s website, “SPRING AWAKENING takes its inspiration from one of literature’s most controversial masterpieces – a work so daring in its depiction of teenage self-discovery, it was banned from the stage and not performed in its complete form in English for nearly 100 years.”

Announcing the 61st Annual Tony Awards Winners!
The 61st Annual Tony Awards were held last evening, June 10, at Radio City Music Hall. Here are the Tony Award results!
Spring Awakening (musical) and The Coast of Utopia (play) were the big winners of the evening, especially for Best Musical and Best Play, respectively!
Multiple awards were won by the following:
Spring Awakening — 8 awards (11 nominations)
The Coast of Utopia — 7 awards (10 nominations)
Grey Gardens — 3 awards (10 nominations)

“Live with Regis and Kelly” will be visited by all four musicals that are nominated for Best Musical, as well as one for Best Musical Revival, at this year’s 61st Annual Tony Awards.
Performances during “Broadway Week” on the popular morning talk show will include scenes/songs from Spring Awakening, Grey Gardens, Curtains, Mary Poppins, as well as the Broadway revival of Company.
All of this is leading up to the June 10th celebration of the 61st Annual Tony Awards.

The 52nd annual Drama Desk Awards took place on Sunday, May 20, at F.H. LaGuardia Concert Hall at Lincoln Center, featuring Kristin Chenoweth as host.
